Suicide may be a difficult topic to talk about, but as a college community it is necessary not only to talk about it, but also be trained to prevent it.
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for college students between the ages of 18 and 24, but it is 100% preventable. The Student Health and Counseling Center is offering Question, Persuade & Refer (QPR) suicide prevention training to help you recognize and respond to the warning signs of suicide.
Participants will learn common misconceptions, warning signs, risk factors, how to talk to someone about suicide, how to persuade someone to get help, and how to refer a person to appropriate campus and community resources. This training is a free 90 minute session and will take place on Wednesday, October 4th from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in the Henry Madden Library Room 2206. Participants are encouraged to register in advance at: bit.ly/fspreventsuicide.
