ASI Elections & tuition increase are the big topics on campus currently, and your ASI President, Tim Ryan, and VP of External Affairs, Connor Esraelian, are featured in the first Senate in a Minute video of February. Tim informed and encouraged all students to come by the USU room 317 to pick up a petition to run for student government and return the completed form before 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17th. If you have any questions about the petition process visit USU room 316 Tuesday, Feb. 14 from noon to 1 p.m. ASI staff will be available to answer your questions. There are 4 Executive positions, 8 Senator of Colleges/Schools, and 7-9 Senators At-Large. There will potentially be an addition of 2 Senators At-Large depending on the if the student body votes for it on the March ASI Election ballot. FEB. 8th SENATE MEETING NEWS: “In an 8-6 vote, the senate voted to approve ballot language for two new senator positions, Senator for Veteran’s and Transfer Students and Senator for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; which will be voted on by students in the March ASI Elections. There were a large number of audience members that included representatives from various clubs and organizations as well as faculty members who voiced support of the Senator for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. There were arguments from a number of Senators who supported the creation of a Senator for Sustainability, after an engaging debate the Senate voted to keep the original ballot language.” – Brandon Sepulveda, ASI VP of Finance.
