“A Hollywood Career in Costume Design with Black Panther’s Ruth E. Carter.” Ruth E. Carter is a renowned costume designer. She is the 2019 Academy Award winner for “Best Costume Design” for her work on Black Panther, making history as the first African American to win in that category. Carter has also been nominated for the Academy Awards for Spike Lee’s MALCOM X (1993) and Steven Spielberg’s AMISTAD (1998) as well as an Emmy nomination in 2016 for the reboot of ROOTS. Ruth E. Carter will be making her virtual presentation to Fresno State on Thursday, March 4th to discuss her research and diligence in the craft of costume design.
