Cineculture | Waves (2024)
Discussant: Jiří Mádl (Director)
**Film Screening will begin at 5:15p.m.**
Waves, by Czech director Jiří Mádl, is a 2024 historical thriller set during the Prague Spring and subsequent Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia led by the Soviet Union (January-August 1968). The story revolves around the International Editorial Office of the Czechoslovak Radio staffed by courageous journalists under the leadership of Milan Weiner who has since become a journalistic icon. Young Tomáš works amongst them, though it is his brother’s dream job. His main concern is keeping them both safe. He has no idea that State Security is watching the Editorial Office. Their broadcasting of uncensored and compromising information could change history. Will Tomáš go down in history as a hero alongside his fellow journalists or will he choose to protect his younger brother, the last remaining member of his family? This dramatic film won numerous awards in the Czech Republic as well as at many International Film Festivals in Miami, Palm Springs, Slovakia and India, to name just a few. CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Welcome Back Bulldogs
Hi Bulldogs!
Welcome to Fresno State–or welcome back if you’re returning!
My name is Camalah Saleh, and I’m excited to serve as your ASI President this year. I’m a fourth-year Political Science and Communication student, and I’m here to advocate, support, and represent you.
As the semester kicks off, here are a few ways ASI can help you start strong: We offer free bluebooks, scantrons, pens, and pencils–just stop by our office anytime. You can also join us at tailgates throughout the year for free food, fun, and bulldog pride. If you’re part of a student organization, we provide grants to support club events and development. Most importantly, your voice matters: ASI represents students on over 50 university committees to ensure you’re heard directly where it counts. At the heart of it all, our mission is simple–students serving students.
You’ll find us on the 3rd floor of the Resnick Student Union, open Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. My door–and every Executive’s–is always open. We want to hear your ideas, concerns, and hopes for your year at Fresno State.
You deserve a college experience that’s supportive, empowering, and most of all, rewarding. We’re here to help make that happen.
As always…go ‘dogs!
Camalah Saleh
ASI President
Bulldog Hours at the Library
Starting this fall semester, the library will close to the public at 8:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. After 8:00 p.m., only Fresno State students, faculty, and staff with a valid Bulldog ID card will be allowed to enter the library. This policy is in place to help enhance safety, reduce distractions, and ensure a secure, peaceful study environment for our Fresno State community.
What’s changing, how it works, and why it matters.
Starting August 20 — the first day of instruction — the Library introduced new “Bulldog Hours” from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday through Thursday.
During Bulldog Hours, only Fresno State affiliates will be able to access the Library building using their valid Bulldog ID Card via card swipe. The Library doors will allow entry only to students, staff, and faculty with an active ID.
Why this matters: Bulldog Hours are designed to create a safer, more focused, and student-centered study environment during peak academic hours. This initiative aims to foster a stronger sense of community among Fresno State students and improve the late-night study experience.
There will be a grace period until October 1 for those who need to replace or obtain their ID cards.
Read the FAQ at the FS Library News site.
