#OwnVoices Storytime

Instagram Live @MaddenLibrary
Join the Henry Madden Library on Instagram Live, @MaddenLibrary , for a storytime featuring beautifully illustrated picture books from our Arne Nixon Center for Children’s Literature and Teacher Resource Center collections. The term “Own Voices” describes a book that features diverse characters and perspectives written by an author who shares those identities. Sit criss-cross applesauce as our Henry Madden Library workers read to you! The books we will read on Monday include:
Eyes that Kiss in the Corners by Joanna Ho
A young Asian girl notices that her eyes look different from her peers’. They have big, round eyes and long lashes. She realizes that her eyes are like her mother’s, her grandmother’s, and her little sister’s. They have eyes that kiss in the corners and glow like warm tea, crinkle into crescent moons, and are filled with stories of the past and hope for the future.
Julián at the Wedding by Jessica Love
Julián and his Abuela are going to a wedding. Better yet, Julián is at the wedding. Weddings have flowers and kissing and dancing and cake. And this wedding also has a new friend named Marisol. It’s not long before Julián and Marisol set off for some magic and mischief of their own.
