As part of the Mellon Grant for Advancing and Expanding Ethnic Studies, Fresno State’s American Indian Studies Program in collaboration with the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department, American Indian Programs & Services, and LGBTQ+ Programs & Services are thrilled to announce Queer ED Talks – a brand-new, limited-series program designed to show how to expand Ethnic Studies with the integration of Indigenous Queer and Trans knowledges and voices. Open to all—students, faculty, staff, alumnx, and community members. Let’s build something stronger—together!
In recognition of Transgender Day of Visibility, celebrated annually on March 31st, this month’s celebrations include a Queer ED Talk by trans femme and two-spirit writer, activist, and scholar Patricia Flores (Cuyuteca/Nahua, she/they). Flores will guide attendees through an exploration of gender identity and spiritual roles among Indigenous peoples. Her talk will discuss the relationship between colonialism, gender, and white supremacy. Utilizing storytelling, Flores will facilitate a writing exercise that weaves stories and practices of resistance, protection, and a reclamation of ancestral knowledge.
