My fellow Bulldogs,
As you may know, the month of April is ‘Sexual Assault Awareness’ Month and ASI is teaming up with Army ROTC, the Staff Assembly, Greek Organizations, Student Affairs, Administrative Services, the Title IX office, and the University Police Department on campus to host an event dedicated to increasing awareness and education on the issue of sexual assault.
On Wednesday, April 5 at 6 p.m. in North Gym 118 we will be hosting a sexual assault survivor, Tim Mousseau, as a keynote speaker. Our own Athletic Director, Jim Bartko, will also be speaking as a fellow survivor of sexual assault. Both of these speakers are very courageous in their willingness to share their stories with us, and I would greatly appreciate as much student support as possible for both of these speakers.
This event will serve to educate students at Fresno State on how we can work together to prevent future sexual assault, as well as to provide on and off campus resources to sexual assault survivors. We are hoping that this will equip students with the tools to prevent and respond to sexual assault incidences, especially with spring break coming up next week. Additionally, this event will start what we are hoping is an annual Sexual Assault Awareness event, and potentially an ongoing series of speakers to provide diverse perspectives on the issue of sexual assault.
You can read more about Tim Mousseau and his message about re-framing the sexual assault conversation here: http://www.campuspeak.com/speaker/mousseau/
Again, I strongly encourage you to attend the event tonight to show your support for both of our speakers and to join this conversation on sexual assault.
Thank you,
Tim Ryan
ASI President
