On November 20, the nation reflects and remembers all of those who lost their lives to anti-transgender violence and suicide. Here at Fresno State, the Cross Cultural and Gender Center honors and remembers the lives of transgender individuals who died from murder or suicide with Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual observance held on November 20, and aims to honor and remember those whose lives were taken in acts of anti-transgender violence. The day is also an opportunity for education and raising awareness about transgender issues, rights, and existence in our own communities.
The event will also feature art, poetry, music, and inspirational speakers addressing topics of transgender experiences, gender diversity, inclusion, and the importance of being an ally. Information of crisis services and organizations as well as local resources will be present at the event as well. Concluding the night will be a reading of the names of individuals who have been lost to violence or suicide this past year.
Transgender Day of Remembrance will be held in the North Gym 118 on Monday, November 20 from 6-8:30 p.m. Join all members of the community to honor and remember the lives lost from violence and suicide.
