CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Parent Scholars Receive Priority Registration
Students must self-certify by October 7, 2024 at 5 PM
Did you know that 1 in 5 undergraduates are student parents? Fresno State is committed to supporting Parent Scholars in their pursuit of education while juggling school, work, and parenting responsibilities.
Per Assembly Bill 281, priority registration is offered to our Parent Scholars. The legislation defines a student parent as “a student who has a child or children under 18 years of age who will receive more than half of their support from that student.” To receive priority 2 registration, Parent Scholars must log into their MyFresnoState Student Center, select “My Personal Information” and “Dependents” from the drop down menu, and then provide the youngest dependent’s date of birth where prompted. Students must self-certify by October 7, 2024 at 5 p.m. to receive priority registration for the Spring 2025 semester.
Once this process is completed, Parent Scholars will begin receiving communications on other ways our campus is here to support including campus and community resources, family-friendly events and activities, giveaways, etc.
For questions related to our Parent Scholar Initiative: email parentscholars@mail.fresnostate.edu.

ASI Passed a Memorandum in Support of President Saul Jimenez Sandoval
A Memorandum was passed in the September 25, 2024 ASI Senate Meeting at 4 p.m.
The Fresno State Student Senate deeply understands the challenges facing students, faculty, and staff at Fresno State, including state budget cuts and the resulting strain on our campus resources and community. We understand and actively advocate that improvements are needed within Fresno State and the CSU system. We know the faculty’s justified frustration regarding President Jiménez-Sandoval’s lack of engagement with faculty representatives and the university’s allocation of resources.
However, the recent petition calling for President Jiménez-Sandoval’s resignation without consulting the student body or its representatives is not the way forward. This action blatantly disregards the students’ voices and undermines the potential for unified progress. As student representatives, we believe President Jiménez-Sandoval is the best person to lead Fresno State through these difficult times. He has shown an eager willingness to engage and listen to students, and we must work together to bridge the existing gaps between administration and faculty.
We call upon the President, Faculty, Staff, and Union Representatives to engage in mutual, respectable dialogue. We should not be divided at a time when we need to work as a united front. Instead of fighting against each other, we should focus our efforts on advocating for the resources our campus desperately needs. The real fight is with the state and the CSU system to secure adequate funding for our university.
We expect all parties to prioritize the well-being of the Fresno State community for the sake of its students and the well-being of the faculty that serves them. Moving forward, any decisions that impact the future of our university must include student voices, and we demand that this level of respect and consideration be given. These decisions cannot be divorced from student wishes while attempting to invoke students in actions. Our decisions at this critical time will be either a model or a warning for all other CSUs in handling these issues moving forward.
Very Respectfully,
Associated Students, Inc.
Fresno State University
For those interested in learning more about the Meeting you can find all of ASI’s meetings on their Facebook @FresnoStateASI. ASI Streams all of their bi-weekly, open to the public, meetings.
