Fresno State Symphony Orchestra – Bruckner Bicentennial
The Fresno State Symphony Orchestra will present its second concert of the season on Saturday, November 16, at 7:30 PM at the Fresno State School of Music Concert Hall celebrating the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner’s bicentennial, conducted by Dr. Thomas Loewenheim. The program will include Niels Wilhelm Gade’s Echoes of Ossian Overture and Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4. Gade’s overture is one of his most important works inspired by the epic tales of the ancient warrior-poet Ossian with strong Danish influences expressing the Nordic character. Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4, titled the “Romantic,” captures territory which is more cosmic and elemental. It is the world of nature, punctuated by the mystical call of the horn, with its ancient hunting connotations. Bruckner paints the picture of a Medieval city at dawn, proud knights on horseback, “woodland magic,” “forest murmurs,” and “birdsongs.” As Bruckner’s music unfolds, it revels in the majestic grandeur of the moment, forcing us to slow down and enter a space of meditation and eternal mystery.

CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Upward Bound Toy Drive
Dear Fresno State Bulldogs and Friends:
Fresno State Upward Bound students and staff are excited to invite you to our second annual Holiday Toy Drive 2024! We look forward to coming together again to bring our community joy during this special season. Donations will be shared with the “Diaz Family Foundation” in Guanajuato, Mexico, and “Angels of Grace Foster Family Agency” in the Central Valley. Any remaining toys will be donated to Fresno State student parents who need them to support their children. Our goal is to spread joy throughout our community and teach Upward Bound students the importance of community service and helping someone in need.
About Upward Bound and Volunteers:
Fresno State Upward Bound is a federally funded program in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management that serves low-income and first-generation college-bound high school students in Fresno and Madera Unified School Districts. On December 7th, Fresno State Upward Bounders and staff will offer community service by wrapping all donated toys to distribute to the Diaz Foundation, Angels of Grace Foster Family Agency, and student parents.
Last year, our Fresno State Upward Bound students wrapped 258 gifts, 38 of which were delivered to kids with special needs in Guanajuato, Mexico, through the Diaz Foundation Family, and 220 were distributed amongst 14 Boys & Girls Clubs of Fresno County across the Central Valley.
Please join us in spreading joy!
